Chiropractic is a healing art, science, and philosophy that deals with the spinal column and its associated structures – particularly the vertebrae, intervertebral discs, and the facet joints that guide motion in the posterior of the spine. The spinal column is the bone protection for the delicate spinal cord, and because of spinal nerves exit from between each and every bone of the spine, there is also a neurological component to chiropractic care that can have far-reaching effects on one’s overall health.

Chiropractic sometimes incorporates certain physical therapy modalities, exercises, and massage techniques, but at MaxWell Medical, these treatments are generally left to their respective specialists. In fact, this is one of the strengths of our integrated, multi-specialty approach. All our providers focus on what they do best without the patient, having to sacrifice quality of care.

Chiropractic Adjustments

What should I expect from my first adjustment?

Your first adjustment will be a unique experience. It will start the process of spinal alignment and restoration of motion and for many of you, will be the first step on the road to good health and improved quality of life. A spinal adjustment is a gentle manipulation of the vertebra that has little discomfort. In the case of severe spinal misalignments, or when a joint is very stuck, you may feel a slight soreness following the adjustment. This is normal, and usually, doesn’t last beyond the first or second adjustment.
